Discovering White Sands National Park: A Family Adventure in Nature’s Playground
White Sands National Park: Nature’s Playground WE FOUND SNOW IN NEW MEXICO!!!! Nah not really,…
Horse Cave KOA Holiday is located in Horse Cave Kentucky. We recently were able to spend a few nights here enjoying the campground while visiting Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky Down Under, and Dinosaur World.
Horse Cave KOA Holiday is the campsite that taught me a valuable lesson. Never leave your awning out when not outside actively under it. I was inside enjoying a nap on the couch, when my wife woke me up with a panicked voice telling me I need to bring the awning in. Now honestly, I was not overly concerned or really in a hurry to get up off the couch and get that awning in. After all we have an electric awning with a wind sensor, if it gets too bouncy it will pull the awning in on its own. As I was mansplaining that to my wife, she informed me (with a very frustrated attitude I may add) that the camper was trying to pull in the canopy in but with the wind it could not do so.
So here I am, peeling myself up from the couch, still not really believing that we had any problems occurring. That’s when I peered out the blinds to see some extremely heavy winds ripping through the campground. Watching the canopy attempt to pull in but getting ripped back out by the wind was terrifying. Lucky the wind died down just long enough for our canopy to pull in and lock. Leaving us with the only damage I can find, the slide topper over the bedroom ripped to shreds. We were blessed that was our only damage we sustained as some of our neighbors had their entire canopy mangled into a pretzel.
Horse Cave KOA Holiday location is perfect for visiting Mammoth Cave National Park, Kentucky Down Under Zoo, and Dinosaur World. It is located only 15 minutes from the National Park allowing you to get away from the crowds without having to add too much travel time to your day. This also is super convenient for heading back to camp for a cheap lunch in between your cave tours. If you would like to read about our visit to Mammoth Cave National Park, please click here
This KOA can accommodate up to 60’ max length camper with 20, 30, and 50 amp service available. There are fully paved deluxe full hookup sites also available. We did not stay on the deluxe site this time. Our motivation was to try and save money so we opted for the cheapest site with water and electric only. This may not be a grand experience but it still was a pleasant, clean, and quiet location.
One of my favorite experiences at this campsite was the updated playground and clean pool. These both are located away from the campers allowing up to let our kids have as much fun as they can handle without the worry of bothering other campers. There also is a jump pillow, mini golf, volleyball, and jumbo connect 4 game to keep your kids happy for hours.
Even if you do not have a camper, you can enjoy the Horse Cave KOA Holiday. Located on the back half of the KOA are large wagons. I did not go in to investigate but it looked like they have electric, a bed, and a small table located inside. They are parked on a paved pad and overlook a beautiful large pasture right outside your wagon door. I highly recommend checking these out if you want a “glamping” experience without the price tag of a camper.
All and all the Horse Cave KOA Holiday has a lot to offer with a small price tag. All the staff and visitors where extremely friendly. I would stay here again and highly recommend making this your basecamp for visiting Mammoth Cave National Park.
