High Plains Camping is located in Oakley Kansas. It is not necessarily a campground that I would consider a destination location. There is nothing much around here to see, not much to do at the park itself. What this campground excels in is filling the need for an Oasis for travelers. High Plains Camping is located directly off I-70 and is conveniently located next to a fuel station.

That is why we chose High Plains Camping to be our first stop in a long trip exploring Colorado. We made a long drive from St. Louis to Oakley. That had us on the road for almost 10 hours straight and I must say, pulling into High Plains gave me a feeling of excitement and relief knowing that we made it to our first stop and I could finally stretch my legs and start to relax.

Like I said, there is nothing special here but it is the perfect location and price for an overnight stay while traveling out West on I-70. Yes, it is not as nice as a KOA but it is also half the price and still offers a level full hookup pull through sites with 30 and 50 amp service.  Not only that but they even offer cable hookup! They have movie rental in the convenience store. They sell all the necessities that you may need. There is a grill that has pizza, salads, and beer. The kids were happy to come across a very clean well-kept swimming pool that allowed them to get out the cooped-up travel energy they have been holding in for 10 hours.

If you need to find that perfect spot that is peaceful, affordable, and has the perfect location. Give High Plains Camping a shot. It served that purpose perfectly for us!
