Headwaters Campground and Grand Teton National Park

Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch

If you are wanting to experience camping close to Grand Teton National Park with full hookups you don’t have a lot of options. Luckily you don’t need a lot of options as Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch is the perfect location for your visit. This campsite is located between the South Entrance of Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. It serves as a little oasis for fuel, supplies, food, and camping.

Heading out of the Southern Entrance to Yellowstone you will only be approximately 31 miles away from Grand Teton. Approximately 2.5 Miles out of the Southern Entrance of Yellowstone, you will come across this fantastic little campsite and lodge. This campsite is a perfect location to set up camp for Grand Teton National Park. I feel it is a little far from the Yellowstone attractions to be used for both parks.

Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch can accommodate a 45’ max length. It offers 20-amp, 30-amp, and 50-amp electric. Sewer and Water. There is no cable hookup, no WIFI, and no cell service. There is a fire ring on site. The sites are not paved and are not level, but it does not matter. This campsite is beautiful. There are large mature trees at almost every site. It is very peaceful and serene

Our Camping Experience at headwaters campground at flagg ranch

Night time is a whole different level at Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch. The cool crisp air was so comfortable, even chilly at times. Even in the middle of July it got cold at night. We ran the furnace in the mornings to knock off the chill. We had a fire every night and still cuddled up in our hoodies. It felt like a perfect fall night in the Midwest. Just right to have a hoodie on, a small fire, jeans and sandals.  The boys loved this as that meant we made smores or roasted hot dogs every night.

The sky was incredibly dark. No city lights to hide all the stars in the sky. It was a peaceful experience. Allowing all stress just to roll off your shoulders. Living by St. Louis, this was the first time I was able to see the milky way! It was faint, but it was there. A spectacular moment that I am not soon to forget.

Ground squirrels love this place. They are everywhere. We had a ground squirrel and her babies at our site. She would not come out while we were outside but when we were inside, she could be seen out the window. This also meant we had some predators running around. We would see a fox every morning coming through the site looking for breakfast.

Headwaters Lodge at Flagg Ranch

While you are camping at Headwaters Campground, you will be on the same property as the Lodge. If you are like me, you love food. This lodge has some unique dishes that are worth taking the time to drool over. You can get one of a kind options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For dinner I have some elk medallions covered in brown gravy.  While it was good, it was not the most memorable dish.

The most memorable dish was a trout breakfast. I know it does not sound all that appetizing. Let me tell you, it was surprisingly good. I never thought I would have trout for breakfast, but my curiosity got the best of me. It was a perfect blend of trout, potatoes, and eggs. Making a savory breakfast for any mountain man or woman. Try it out while you are there.

Staying at Headwaters Campground at Flagg Ranch you will feel at home. You will feel at peace. You will feel like you are camping in the center of a National Park. Most important, you will be happy. Something to remember is that it is dirty here. There is a lot of dust. You will not have cell service. There is no playground for the kids. Once you get past all that, it is a great place to set up camp.
