Guadalupe Mountains National Park: Hiking Trails for All Ages

If you are anything like me when you hear the verses regarding Noah’s Ark it is impossible for my simple mind to wrap around how this huge task was accomplished. I mean a single vessel that is so large that all animals on Earth are able to fit in it? How did they feed the animals? Where did they house the animals? How did they keep the animals from killing each other? These are just a few questions that come to my mind. The Ark Encounter located in Williamstown Kentucky is the place you want to be if you are seeking answers.
The Replica Ark that is on site is 510 ft long, 85 ft wide, and a staggering 51 ft tall. Just walking up to the ark is awe inspiring all by itself. This vessel is enormous. Entering the ark, you will be brought back in time, to the time of the great flood. The sounds and sights are spot on, allowing you to really feel like you are boarding the real ark for the first time. Once inside all your questions are answered. They have recreated the entire living quarters, feed storage, water collection, and timeline of the flood. You can easily spend an entire day inside the ark. Spending that time reading about strange creatures that are no longer around. Reading about the times of the flood, during the flood, and what followed. They even have some very entertaining movies to watch on how the ark was built.
Not only will you see the wonders of how the ark was built but you will see how they lived. Sections for sleeping, cooking, blacksmith, and maintaining living plants. I was pleasantly surprised that Jameson, only being 4 years old at the time, never really got to the point of being so board that he threw a fit. Afterall in order to understand what you are viewing, you first must understand why it is important. With that being said all the models of the animal and creepy looing creatures kept him very entertained. He was able to see animals that he was used to seeing plus some bonus animals that are no longer living one earth. These animals are kind of creepy and he really like checking out these “monsters”.
Killian on the other hand was infatuated with the entire experience. He was curious as to why the entire Earth needed to be flooded. Why so many people died and how Noah knew to build this ark. He loved checking out the animals but also was interested in the models of the living quarter, the movies, and the timelines. He learned more about the bible in that day then he had learned in 6 years of living on this Earth. At the time of this writing it has been 5 months since we have been to the Ark Encounter. He still to this day talks about the giant boat and the flood that he learned about that day. This exposure to the bible and Noah story to my sons was worth the price of emission 50 times over, and I am thankful we were able to provide that to them.
Outside the Ark Encounter you will find perfectly manicured landscape that compliments the life-sized Ark. You are also able to walk through a petting zoo filled with enough animals to keep the kids entertained. Kangaroos, goats, birds, alligators, and zebras are just a few of the animals you will be able to see. If you are hungry there are a few places on site that offer buffet style meals. We chose not to eat here since our base camp was located so close it made sense to go back to the camper to eat some lunch and save some money.
All and all if you are anywhere near the Ark Encounter I feel you have to swing by. Spend at least a half a day walking through and stretching your legs. If you do not want to set up camp but still want to visit. They have big rig friendly parking available, not for the night but you can park and enjoy yourself. Even if you have small children it is a great place for them to learn about the Bible in an entertaining but informative way. I am very happy we had the opportunity to take ourselves and our children to the Ark. While I beleive the price to enter is very reasonable. I do think it is important to mention on top of your ticket purchase you will have to pay for parking as well. Ready to purchase your tickets?
